FAB Magazine says good bye after nearly 20 years in the business. Shame to see this community publication go.
Sad face! I always hate to see wonderful, witty, small to mid size publications close their doors, especially such culturally relevant ones like FAB Magazine!
Fab Magazine has been around since I was in grade 1 – wow ! This legendary Toronto bi-weekly mag ran from 1994-2013. Apparently (according to inside sources) they’re being shut down due to bad judgement budget cuts at Pink Triangle.
In a phone interview with NOW Magazine editor Phil Villeneuve said: “I’m pretty devastated,” … “Next year would have been 20 years. It would have been great to make it one more year.”
“Pink Triangle is really focusing on Xtra!,” Villeneuve says. “They’re planning a new daily website, Daily Xtra!, landing early this summer.” He says that he has plans to contribute arts and culture coverage to this new site, with a mind toward bringing in some of the freelancers he worked with to bring the “same fun stuff” he did at Fab to Daily Xtra!
At lease it sounds like some people will still have their jobs and are transitioning perhaps the FAB spirit may yet live on.
Big Cheers to FAB!!! You were – as cliche as it sounds - Fabulous! Thank you for the nearly 20 years of community support, tales and fun.
